Barlele is a branding and marketing agency focused on supporting entrepreneurs, growing companies, and social do-gooders. As the business has grown and developed, an increasing priority has been sharing Barlele’s expertise and developing a podcast featuring Barlele’s founder and CEO, Taylor Shanklin. Barlele entered into a Partner+ engagement with Nexus Marketing in May of 2022 to support those goals.

In 2022, Barlele embarked on a new venture, the Talking Shizzle podcast, which is a marketing podcast focused on helping grow social good organizations.

This format leads to engaging discussions, but it also raises a serious question: how do you build a sustainable pipeline of knowledgeable and interesting guests for the podcast?
After kicking off with Nexus for Partner+, the Nexus team dove into our network and began taking on the task of finding experts who would be good fits for Talking Shizzle. In the first 6 months of the partnership, Nexus has made 8 introductions between Taylor and other experts.
Partner+ has allowed Nexus to leverage our wide network of connections to help save the Barlele team hours of work in sourcing as well as opening doors to organizations they were not previously connected to.
Another priority of Barlele’s for 2022 was to get Taylor in front of other audiences to share her expertise and thought leadership. The time it takes to identify speaking opportunities and conduct the necessary outreach is a massive barrier for most professionals.
As a Partner+, Taylor shared with the Nexus team the types of opportunities she’d be interested in, as well as the topics she’d be excited to speak on, and Nexus took it from there.
Beginning in May of 2022, Nexus began sourcing opportunities from across our network that would be a good fit for Taylor to highlight her own thought leadership on branding and storytelling as well as Barlele’s work in the mission-driven sector.
Since that time, Nexus has provided 13 potential opportunities and made 8 successful connections for Taylor to speak on other organizations’ podcasts and webinars and is continuing to source opportunities.
One of the major benefits of Partner+ is low-effort lead generation via NXUnite panels. In July 2022, Taylor participated in Barlele’s first NXUnite panel, A Signature Style: Building Your Nonprofit’s Brand in 2022. The Nexus team organized and ran this panel, which required very little from Taylor and the other panelists.
By the end of 2022, the Barlele team will have participated in 3 NXUnite panels showcasing their expertise and generating leads for the business, with over 100 leads sourced so far.
This low-lift activity supported Barlele’s business development efforts while minimizing the amount of time their team had to invest in generating leads.

In the first 6 months of the Partner+ engagement with Barlele, Nexus has leveraged its network to make 16 connections for cross-marketing opportunities, both for Barlele to host and to participate in as a guest. With quarterly check-ins and regular email exchanges, both teams have been able to effectively communicate any changes in priorities and raise questions as needed to best support the engagement.
